LGBT-Friendly Senior Housing Moves Forward in Bay Shore after Historic Planning Board Vote

On Thursday, August 17th, The LGBT Network unveiled plans for its LGBT-friendly affordable housing apartment complex in Bay Shore.senoir2

The new housing development accompanied by a brand new state-of-the-art 8,000 square-foot community center will be constructed at the site of LGBT Network’s existing community center on Park Avenue and Mechanicsville Road and near the Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road station.

In a historic vote, the Town of Islip Planning Board voted unanimously to move the LGBT Network’s Senior Housing and Community Center Project forward and the Islip Town Board is expected to vote on final approvals this fall.

LGBT Network CEO, David Kilmnick, spoke passionately about the need for such a facility, “No one should ever feel like they cannot be their true authentic selves, and no one should ever feel like they have to go back into the closet and we need to make sure that every single senior citizen, every single older adult on Long Island is able to live their golden years with the highest quality of life. And, that’s what this project is going to achieve.”

Construction is expected to begin in the late spring and a lottery for prospective residents will be announced in 2018.
