Most Important Long Island Pride celebration comes to long beach
The Long Island Pride Parade and Festival has been celebrated in various ways in the 26 years since it was founded.
From its earliest beginnings as a march brought forward after suing for the right to take to the streets, to stand up and be visible, to the relatively celebratory times of the past
8 years – one constant has remained – Pride is a powerful showing of the beautiful diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community of Long Island.
In 2017, we are celebrating just a bit more. Long Island Pride is becoming “Pride on the Beach”, a 3-day weekend event in the City of Long Beach, it’s new home after 26 years in the Town of Huntington.
“The Long Island Pride Weekend is a great opportunity for families all across Long Island to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community that has contributed so much to make Long Island such a great place to live,” said Anthony Eramo, the Vice President of the Long Beach City Council.
The City of Long Beach is a natural Eco-Tourism destination which allows Long Island Pride to expand into an event that showcases and utilizes both the Beach and Boardwalk in Long Beach, one of the more famous beaches in the world. Long Island Pride is now the only weekend Pride Event in the Northeastern United States to be held directly on a beach.
The annual “Pridefest” is morphing into two events running next to each other with a Market Fair all day Sunday along the boardwalk, showcasing businesses and vendors, with
a special section highlighting “Shop & Eat Long Beach” and a Concert on the Beach on Sunday afternoon.
The Long Island Pride Parade, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union will wind its way through the streets of the city and arrive directly on the beach for the Market Fair and Concert. The parade steps off at 12 noon and will feature a multitude of entrants including for the first time in many years, marching bands! This year’s theme is “Rise with Pride” – From Selma to Stonewall, we have marched for our freedoms, this year we march and “Rise with Pride” to add our voices to the strong legacy of our community standing for justice, equity and equality.
TD Bank presents the Beach Club directly on the beach for our Saturday “Pride Beach Party”. “Our event just keeps getting better every year, and we
are truly excited to bring the festivities to the south shore for the first time. The City, the Chamber of Commerce, and the community have been extremely supportive, allowing us to transform the event into a weekend-long celebration” said David Kilmnick, LGBT Network CEO.
